Breeding of endangered white-shouldered Ibis succeeds
The Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity (ACCB) has successfully bred critically endangered white-shouldered Ibis (Pseudibisdavisoni) chicks under human care for the first time.
As the new-borns have survived and stayed healthy, the ACCB issued a recent news release to announce the triumph.
One pair of the birds successfully incubated and raised two chicks in captivity, added the release.
These chicks provide hope for the eventual reintroduction of their population into their natural habitat.
Cambodia is believed to be home to 87–95 percent of the entire global population of white-shouldered Ibis.
In 2022, the minimum estimated population of the species in Cambodia was 792 individuals. AKP
