Observing racing tradition

Oxcart races in Kampong Speu province’s Samraong Tong district on Sunday attracted more than a thousand spectators. Event organisers said that in addition to preserving the ancient custom, this annual celebration made the community happy in the run-up to the Khmer New Year, which falls on April 13 to 16. This year’s race saw 50 pairs of oxen compete, up from 38 pairs the year before. The event was to promote and maintain the history of oxcart racing. All pictures by Heng Chivoan.
