ACMECS tourism ministers agree to expand direct flights in region to boost connectivity

The ministers of tourism of the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Member States have urged the linking of joint tourism destinations between the five countries in the region, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

The push was made at the 5th ACMECS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, chaired by Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, and the rotating chair of the ACMECS this morning. The ministers met at Siem Reap.

Attendees of the meeting fully supported the recommendations related to the promotion of ACMECS-Intra Travelers, emphasizing additional air, land and waterway connectivity, as well as through driving.

Minister Khon and the other ministers welcomed the increase in international tourists in the countries, at about 10 million in the first nine months of 2022. They also supported the establishment of a joint venture package from the private sector in the sub-region and encouraged national and international airlines to expand more direct flights between destinations.

The Minister encouraged the further strengthening of tourism cooperation among the member states to ensure competitiveness.
