Engineering & Maintenance

Helistar Cambodia contracts Eurocopter South-east Asia (Singapore) for all scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance requirements. Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (LAME) are employed to monitor the aircraft daily and prepare the helicopters for each flight.

Helistar Cambodia has a maintenance hangar in Phnom Penh where it keeps spare parts, equipment and tooling for all aircraft.

All work is carried out under manufacturers' directives and meets Part 145 EASA Regulations.

Insurance

We maintain a full aviation insurance policy, underwritten by Cambodia-Vietnam Insurance Company Plc. Our policy includes a US$10,000,000 combined single limit liability cover in the event of passenger legal liability, bodily injury and property damage.

Safety | Helicopter Safety Procedures:

  • Communication between ground and air shall be established at all times during the operation of the helicopter, using one ground contact.
  • The individual attached to the helicopter support truck shall be designated as the person to supervise safety around the helicopter.
  • No smoking within 50 feet of the helicopter.
  • Unless you're needed – remain at least 50 feet away from the helicopter.
  • Exercise extreme caution when working around helicopters – especially when the helicopter engine is running. Leave and approach the helicopter form the front – with caution. At all times, keep your eyes and head forward.
  • Avoid rear and tail sections of helicopter at all times.
  • Never walk under the tail section of helicopter.
  • Do not extend any equipment vertically into rotor blades – such as cameras, lights, sound booms, etc.
  • Carry all equipment parallel to ground within 50 feet of helicopter.
  • Pilots are the authorities concerning all helicopter operations – if you have questions, ask them.
  • Never, under any circumstances, throw anything such as grip tape, clothing, paper, etc. around the helicopter – whether it is running or not.
  • The landing area should be cleared of debris and, where necessary, wet down.
  • Protect your eyes as well as your equipment when helicopter is landing and taking off.
  • Plot plans and graphics will be prepared to locate landing area, intended flight paths, designated emergency landing sites, and location, as well as types, of explosives and squibs.
  • The pilot in command will have final approval as to aerial traverse and hovering positions of the aircraft. All the above procedures are intended to conform with applicable laws and governmental regulations and in the event of any conflict, applicable laws and governmental regulations will prevail.

Licensing

Helistar Cambodia is licensed with the Kingdom of Cambodia's authority for air safety and airworthiness, The State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA).

Helistar Cambodia has a current Commercial Air Operations Permit which authorizes it to operate helicopter transportation within Cambodia.

Strict enforcement of operational procedures, safety standards and maintenance are adhered to ensure we maintain our operational and airworthiness approval.

Onboard Service

When onboard the aircraft, a headset with microphone for in-flight communication with other passengers and the pilot(s) will be provided. Just remember to speak clearly and slowly. The microphone is voice activated so a little tip is to begin your speech with a vocal noise (eg. like clearing your throat) and then begin to speak immediately. It may require a little practice but after a few goes you'll get used to it. You'll soon notice that if others don't practice this simple technique the first couple of words they say are cut off.

Pre-Flight Preparation

At Helistar Cambodia, your safety and well being is most important to us. If you plan to take a helicopter flight, we require that passengers are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Also, you should not have recently eaten a large meal or suffer from vertigo (a fear of heights!). To ensure that your experience is an enjoyable one, we maintain strict safety standards and we may refuse travel to any person we deem is in breach of our safety policy.

And finally we recommend you wear comfortable clothing during your flight. Also be aware that scarves and long gowns or throw over garments can cause a safety hazard, so we recommend you not wear these.

Our helicopters are air-cooled, however over longer periods you may experience some cramping due to space requirements, so it is important that you dress appropriately to ensure a comfortable flight.

Weather Conditions

Our Pilots are experienced with the range of weather conditions that Cambodia can provide. However, passenger safety is our most important concern and should the weather not be acceptable for continued flight our Pilots are trained to take appropriate action. This may involve cancelling a flight or discontinuing a flight if the weather does not meet our minimum standards of visibility, turbulence and cloud ceiling. Due to Cambodia's monsoonal climate, particularly between June and Oct (the wet season), storms can build up very quickly. It may be fine in the morning but if you are flying in the afternoon and this occurs and there is a safety risk and the pilot deems it unsuitable to fly, we may have to cancel the flight. Should this occur, then our policy is to refund the full ticket price or re-schedule an alternative flying time.
