City is one of the main tourism products. According to UNWTO survey, 20% of the total travelers around the world are environment-friendly young travelers and most of them aim to stay for long period of times and engage in the community life and activities.

Meanwhile, city is not only an attractive place for tourists but also a cultural and business hub for investors/businessman, where convent some international meeting/congress. In order to respond to his trend, it is required that all tourism services (such as accommodation, food and entertainments in city and at tourist destinations around city, especially the Capital city, cities at Eco-tourism and coastal areas, downtown) shall be provided with proper quality.

Furthermore, according to United Nation study, city is a gathering place for most of population- in 2030, with more than 5 billions population living in cities and its surroundings, using around 60% energy sources and emitting around 80% of Cabon- dioxide for around the world.

Based on the new concept, Clean City- a main tourism products-, requires more attention and consideration, particularly in the Urban Tourism development field. In respond to the new trend, the Royal Government laid down the campaign of “Clean City, Clean Resort, Good Service”- an appropriate strategic choice for contributing to the Green Tourism development and making Cambodia Clean and Green. In particular, the launch of the Clean City Contest will promote the beauty, sanitation, and environment, making all the cities become a clean and green tourist destination - a warmth place with international standard quality  for all tourists : leisure tourist, business or youth tourist who prefer urban tourism. The new trend indicates the significant potential of Urban Tourism, which requires a sustainable and responsible development plan, at present and in future, through ensuring the common spirit of conscious tourism, while the whole world is stepping forward the Green Era.

In this spirit, our efforts to get all cities/khan, town, tourist sites, villages and communes to be clean and green are the long-term vision of the Royal Government of Cambodia under the brilliant leadership of Samdech Techo Prime Minister, fostering prosperity of the nation with the concept of “Current development is for both all of us at present and the next generation”.

This year is the first time for Cambodia to celebrate the National Clean City Day under the theme of “Clean City: I think, I act, I care.”

Part of this National Day celebration, we organized, this morning, a meeting presided over by Lok Chumteav Dr. Men Sam An, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister and high representative of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister, with the participation of more than 3,000  representatives from relevant ministries-institutions private sectors and youths and after the meeting, the awareness campaigns are also organized by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia at some various markets in Phnom Penh, with the  rubbish cleanup campaign along the national road  number 4. The celebration of the National Clean City Day was also taking place in all provinces and cities.

To congratulate the National Clean City Day and raise public awareness about the Clean City’s importance and to testify the strong support in tourism development of the Government under the brilliant and sound leadership, Samdech Techo Prime Minister sent a message to all compatriots, and Please allow me to read SamdechTecho’s massage as follow:
